Welcome to Old Ranch Books, Formerly the Portales Book Nook of Portales, New Mexico. Our "Brick and Mortar" bookstore closed in December 2007 when we bought our ranch and moved 25 miles west of town.
Our ranch was homesteaded by John Russell in 1907. He took his covered wagon, turned it over, and lived out of the impromptu home until the Russell's built their first homestead adobe home. The current ranch house was built in 1914...the current office of OLD RANCH BOOKS. We bought the ranch in November 2006, renovated many of the buildings and moved to the ranch shortly thereafter.
After many soul seaching sessions, we decided to close Portales Book Nook, the Brick and Mortar bookstore we owned and operated for 8 years.
We list our books online through a series of book listing venues; WORLDBOOKMARKET.COM, ABEBOOKS.COM, ALIBRIS.COM, BIBLIO.COM. And of course...our own site OLD RANCH BOOKS.
Currently we offer over 65,000 titles online. Take the time to browse our books. Pam and I are confident you'll find what you're looking for offered at a fair price.
We love Western Roosevelt County and it's 'Wild West' values and independent streak. The restless wind and dashing sky pageantry soothes ones soul.
